meet thundertruck: the electric offroader with 'bat wing' solar awnings

Creative agency Wolfgang has unveiled the thundertruck, an electric offroader with futuristic looks. although just a proposal for now, the multipurpose EV promises ‘superior on and off-road performance’ and ‘an entirely new level of versatility and functionality’, all with zero emissions.

thundertruck features include a 180 kWh battery capacity, a 400 mile range, 800 horsepower, and 800 lb-ft of torque. the concept also includes collapsible roof-mounted solar awnings to help recharge the vehicle’s battery while stationary, doubling as shade from the sun. the EV can go from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and there’s also a 6×6 version of the truck.

NOT YOUR TYPICAL LOCKDOWN PROJECT

thundertruck was developed by wolfgang’s newly formed IP division during the first coronavirus lockdown, who leveraged their experience of the automotive industry into this radical truck concept.

‘when covid first hit, people were looking for ways to occupy their time. instead of baking bread or making puzzles we decided to make a new state-of-the-art EV truck,’  explain the designers. ‘while this was not your typical lockdown activity, our core team had worked in and around the automotive industry for the past 25+ years, so it was something we’re more than qualified to take on.’

‘as we started to do initial research, we quickly noticed a white space in the future of the EV marketplace. there are more than 30 new electric vehicles in various stages from concept to production, slated for launch in the next two years. but very few pickup trucks. and most of the trucks that are coming look conventional and uninspired’, say the wolfgang team.
